The Best Bits I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here 2020
I’m A Celebrity… has always been escapism at its finest – both for the contestants and the viewers! – and in 2020, we didn’t half need a little bit of that. The King or Queen of the Castle will be crowned live this Friday at 9pm on Virgin Media One (Virgin TV 103), which makes this the perfect time to look back on some of the most memorable moments the show offered us this year.
From a brand new setting to a batch of campmates who’ll live long in the memory, here’s a handful of highlights that brightened our winter nights!
NEW DIGS
Eyebrows were raised when it was announced the show was headed for Gwrych Castle; all due respect, like, but the jungle it ain’t! In the end, though, a walk in a Welsh wonderland was a triumph. Rethinking some of the show’s longest-running themes, it delivered something that felt decidedly fresh – which, for a 20th series, is no easy feat. While we’re not sure they’ll fancy setting up permanent residency, they certainly found the right home for the show this time round!
THAT’S OUR BEV
About as familiar a face as it gets, thanks to more than 30 years as Corrie’s Liz McDonald, we probably thought we knew Beverly Callard pretty well. We were very wrong. From her love of Jagermeister to a “nickname” for her husband that actually made us scream, she was an absolute livewire during her time on the show, and a reminder of just why we got hooked on seeing stars in this unusual environment in the first place!
DOWN IN ONE
Picking a favourite challenge is a little like asking a parent to pick their favourite child – but the drinking challenge is a special day on the I’m A Celeb calendar every year. This time, it didn’t disappoint, as six of the most unappetising aperitifs you’ve ever imagined were lined up in front of Jessica and Shane...who promptly swigged the lot! No wonder Alfie Moon had to leave the Queen Vic if those are the sorts of drinks he thinks reasonable to serve…
THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF
Every year, there are stories shared that will jump to mind forever – David Gest just making a load of stuff up notwithstanding. But from now on, when we see Downing Street on the news, we’re going to think of Vernon Kay doing a wolf impression when Tony Blair pointed out a full moon. It’s not the type of thing you imagine you’re going to hear on telly – and suitably enough, left us howling!
ALL TOGETHER NOW
Frankly, what the celebs got up to was only part of the excitement; the chats on social media, on Zoom calls the next day, and even on our own brilliant “Hooked On…” podcast were all an absolute treat! Whether moaning about the Saturday highlights show or analysing the best and worst trial performances of the season, event telly that gets everybody watching the same thing is rare these days – and we could do with more of it!
The Jungle Arms may be closed for refurbishment but The Castle Inn is OPEN FOR BUSINESS! 🎄🎤🙌 #ImACeleb pic.twitter.com/LlyFm7ebwB
