The Most Mouthwatering Fixtures Of This Year’s Autumn Internationals

From Grand Slam glory in the Six Nations to a triumphant tour of Australia in June, 2018 has been a banner year for the Irish rugby team – and it’s not over yet! November means the Autumn Internationals are upon us once again, and with it another shot an inaugural home victory against the mighty All Blacks.

Of course, it’s not just the men in green that will be worth watching in the coming weeks – in fact, there’s a veritable feast of action to look forward to. Here’s the pick of the bunch as we scrum down for a month of massive games…

Autumn Intenational Rugby Series 2018

WALES v AUSTRALIA

Saturday November 10th, 5pm, BBC2

The Welsh record when hosting southern hemisphere sides is pretty grim – but this is a golden opportunity to turn the tide. The Wallabies had a dismal Rugby Championship, and are regarded as a team in disarray; Wales, meanwhile, are on a five-game winning run and will certainly fancy their chances.

IRELAND v ARGENTINA

Saturday Novmeber 10th. 5.30pm, RTÉ 2

There might be more than 7,000 miles from here to Buenos Aires, but the rivalry is real; from Lens to Adelaide and Paris to Cardiff, there tends to be fireworks when these frenemies renew acquaintances. Joe Schmidt’s men will start as firm favourites, and the game will likely give an indication of where the team stands ahead of the biggest test of all a week later… but we’ll get to that!

SCOTLAND v SOUTH AFRICA

Saturday November 17th, 5pm, BBC1

The resurgence of Scottish rugby has been predicted for years now; will this be the season it kicks into high gear? A full house at Murrayfield will hope so, and with Glasgow in rare form it’s likely that coach Gregor Townsend will look to bring domestic form to bear. A teak-tough Springboks side will provide a stern examination – we’ll know if they’re the real deal after this one!

IRELAND v NEW ZEALAND

Saturday, November 17th, 7pm, RTÉ 2

If there’s gold throughout the month, then there’s no doubting the jewel in the crown; the world’s top two sides tangling under the lights at Aviva Stadium. Two years ago in Chicago, the 108-year wait for victory against the All Blacks was ended, but a win on home soil remains elusive. The eyes of the rugby world will be on a game that many feel could have an impact stretching far into the future…

ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA

Saturday November 24th, 2.30pm, Sky Sports Action

There’ll be no love lost when Eddie Jones leads his charges into battle against his native land – indeed, considering the teams have met eight times in the past five years alone, it’s fair to say they’re familiar foes all round! Both have had a lousy 2018, so perhaps there’s consolation at stake; more to the point, it’s further into the quagmire for whichever side is second best…
