That’s A Wrap – Looking Back At The Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2020!
After 12 days, more than 100 films, thousands of enthralled viewers, and goodness knows how many bits of popcorn munched, the curtain has once again come down on the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival for another year – but what a year it was!
From the moment Vivarium kicked things off on Opening Night, all the way through to the final credits of Herself, another homegrown hit which had the honour of closing proceedings, the capital played host to a celebration of cinema that would compare to any festival on the planet. After all, when the President himself is hitting the red carpet, you know there’s something special going on!
We're not often star struck but look at those faces. How many can you name? #VMDIFF20 #CitizensOfBoomtown 🐀 pic.twitter.com/qGEy8unLWU— Virgin Media Ireland (@VirginMediaIE) March 3, 2020
Audiences were wowed by incredible Irish films like Calm With Horses and Rose Plays Julie, and awesome international offerings including It Must Be Heaven and Queen of Hearts. Super shorts were in plentiful supply, with the winner of the Virgin Media Discovers competition, Innocent Boy, among them, while junior viewers had everything from Trolls World Tour to Onwards to enjoy. Indeed, at a special dog-friendly screening of Marona’s Fantastic Tale, even puppers got in on the action!
And as for the stars – well, let’s just say that Hollywood must have been a little quieter than usual last week! Legendary screenwriter and director Charlie Kaufman wowed the crowd in a fascinating public interview on his career; George MacKay entertained a packed Lighthouse audience following a screening of True History Of The Kelly Gang; and the red carpets were worn thin by a parade of big names like Fassbender, Keoghan, and a whole lot more who need only one name to be identified!

Throw in musical performances, industry masterclasses, a quiz, a podcast, and a whole lot more, and it’s enough to make you wonder how 12 days could fit the lot! And, of course, there’s another year to look forward to in 2021, when Virgin Media continues its support of the finest film festival around! The countdown begins now…
