Here’s five well worth your time…

DIRTY JOHN

Available from Friday on Netflix, Virgin TV 999

The menacing story of con-man and sociopath john Meehan was first told in podcast form, but this devilishly delicious drama sees it brought to life in absorbing fashion. Eric Bana is alternately charming and chilling at the heart of it, while Connie Britton received deserved award attention for her turn as partner and victim Debra Newell.

CASE CLOSED

While loads of podcasts end without all the answers, the clue is in the title here; this one is dedicated to devious acts where the perpetrator didn’t get away. There’s two series of the show so far, which is available exclusively on Stitcher; you can get a taste of it on iTunes though, and find out if it’s to soundtrack your commute for the next few weeks!

CONVERSATIONS WITH A KILLER: THE TED BUNDY TAPES

Available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999

30 years after he was executed in Florida, the dark and twisted thoughts of the serial killer are laid bare in this absorbing documentary. Archival footage and death-row recordings of the murderer feature alongside present-day interviews to paint a picture of one of the most notorious criminals of the 20th century.

ABDUCTED IN PLAIN SIGHT

Available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999

You might well have seen some of the astonished reaction to this feature-length gem – in which case you’ll likely have raced to see it for yourself! For the uninitiated, it’s a stranger-than-fiction story involving brainwashing, kidnapping, and a web of lies, deceit and twists you won’t believe. Some people have been so tied in knots by the story they’ve described it as infuriating; ready to see it yet?!

AMERICAN CRIME STORY: THE ASSASSINATION OF GIANNI VERSACE

Available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999

The first run of the awesome anthology series dealt with the trial of OJ Simpson; this time, it’s the murder of fashion icon Gianni Versace – and the subsequent manhunt for his killer – that’s under the microscope. Darren Criss is creepy and captivating as murderer Andrew Cunanan, the non-chronological sequencing is skilfully done, and the whole thing drips with a suitable sense of style.
