The Awesome Animated Sequels You Need To See

Despicable Me

If there’s one thing that the wonderful world of animation seems to specialise in, it’s fantastic follow-ups; spectacular sequels are a feature of family film franchises, and with Ralph Breaks The Internet, we have one more to add to the awesome list!

The film, which is available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €4.99, sees Wreck-it Ralph and his mates back in action, in a colourful caper with just as many thrills and spills as the first go-round. Their weird and wacky journey through the web is one to enjoy with the entire family – and there’s more where that came from, too. Check out a few more super second efforts below…

DESPICABLE ME 2

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99

The yella fellas race back onto the screen gurgling and gaggling like nobody’s business! The Minion madness is, of course, a constant here – but so too is slick animation, a high-stakes story, and plenty of emotional heft to go with the hilarity; there’s a reason the little lads are so beloved!

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA 2

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99

Humans are now welcome at the supposedly horrifying hotel – but this super sequel is nothing to be scared of! A blue-chip voice cast and a script bursting at the seam with corny wisecracks make it a film every bit as fun and fantastic as the original – pack your bags and check in now!

PADDINGTON 2

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99

Fine, it’s not all animated – in fact, apart from the Peruvian protagonist, it’s a live action adventure. Still though, we couldn’t leave perhaps the most magnificent follow-up of recent years off this list! Charming and cheerful, it’s the sort of family film that will remind you why gathering the clan for movie night remains one of life’s greatest pleasures!

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2

Available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99

The residents of Swallow Falls – they of the weird weather – return, with all the zaniness of the original adventure present and correct. The visuals are vivid, and and the dialogue fast and fun, but it’s the sheer invention with which this story unfolds that makes it such a delight.
