Virgin Mobile Freestyle

Information

Unlike standard mobile contracts, Virgin Mobile Freestyle contracts are split in two: one payment for your Mobile Phone, and one payment for your Plan. Add them together and that’s what you’ll be paying each month. Easy!


Step 1: Choose your Mobile Phone and the phone contract length. We offer 12, 18 and 24 month contracts.


Step 2: Choose your Plan. This gives you data, minutes and texts to use every month and has a contract length of 30 days. Depending on the phone you chose you will need to pay a certain amount upfront for your phone.


Separating your Mobile Phone and Plan gives you greater flexibility:

  • Change your Mobile Plan up or down anytime (effective from your next Bill Date), to get more or less data, minutes and texts.  Who else lets you do that?
  • If you want to change your phone for the latest smartphone, but are still in a contract, all you need to do is pay off the remaining cost of your Mobile Phone only, then you can take out a new contract for your new phone.
  • Once you have paid off your phone in full, you’ll only pay for the Mobile Plan each month, so your monthly payment drops. Win!

Although you have two contracts, one for your Mobile Phone and one for your Mobile Plan, you will receive one bill with two payment amounts split out and one direct debit payment will be taken from your account per month.

How's it calculated?


All of our pricing is subject to an application check. The Virgin Mobile Application Check is an internal process used by us to review your application details, along with other checks typically used by Irish Mobile Operators. All of our pricing is subject to this check. Don’t worry, no data from third parties is used and we don’t share your details externally.


If you cannot avail of our lowest upfront price, don’t worry!  The overall cost of the phone over the life of the contract will end up the same, it’s just the upfront payment amount which might change. You will then pay less for your monthly phone charge.

 

Example:


If a phone costs €600, and you pay €120 upfront, you would then pay €20 a month for 24 months.  That all adds back up to €600.


However, if you have to pay €240 upfront for the same phone, it means your monthly charge will drop to €15 a month for 24 months.  Again, it adds up to €600.  Trust us – the maths works out!

 

So, if you don’t get the lowest upfront price, you can rest assured that you will be no worse off with Virgin Mobile.

Estimated Mobile network speeds

The estimated maximum upload and download speeds achievable at least once in any 24 hour period in realistic usage conditions by Virgin Mobile Subscribers are as follows :

Mobile internet speeds across a mobile network are never consistent due to the variable factors that may impact on the speed and service received by users. Mobile Internet service is influenced by a number of factors including but not limited to (a) the location of the user, (b) device capability (handset, modem/dongle), (c) distance of the user from the serving site, (d) the number of users active on the site, (e) location of the device if using indoors (f) topographical issues that arise in the case of valleys, mountainous terrain, trees, buildings and other obstructions. In the case of indoor use, advances in building insulation can also negatively impact service and speed.

We will always do our very best to investigate and remedy any issues you are having with your mobile. If you are experiencing a continuous or regularly recurring discrepancy where the mobile speeds you are getting are not in accordance with our Estimated Speeds please contact us  by calling 1908 or by email to customer.support@virginmedia.ie. We will do our best to resolve your issue in accordance with our Code of Practice. A continuous or regularly recurring discrepancy is one that happens over a period of time for example a one week period or longer and is established by a monitoring mechanism certified by ComReg. In the event we are unable to resolve your issue then you may be able to avail of one of the following remedies:

 

the right to change your service to one that works better for you;

a discount; or

you may be entitled to terminate your SIM only contract with no early termination fee applied.

 

Other legal remedies you may have include a claim for damages in respect of a breach of contract. Under Consumer Law (for example the Sale of Goods Acts, 1893 and 1980) remedies for breach of contract can include  a remedy of the defect that led to the breach, or a right to rescind, or repudiate your contract. Where your claim is for €2,000 or less you can take your complaint to the Small Claims Court. Virgin Media’s liability is at all times limited in accordance with Clause 13 of our terms and conditions.
