UPC announced as Ireland’s first telecommunications provider to join Guaranteed Irish

UPC’s major investments, employment and support for local communities acknowledged by the Guaranteed Irish mark

Consumer demand for Guaranteed Irish holds strong after 30 years

Ireland’s leading TV, broadband and communications innovator UPC has broken new ground as it tomorrow becomes the first Irish telecommunications company to be granted membership of Guaranteed Irish.

This move enables UPC Ireland to use the Guaranteed Irish symbol across its products and services. The recognition is a further endorsement of UPC’s commitment to Ireland. Over its 43 years in operation, UPC’s investment in its telecommunications infrastructure, its role as a major employer, as well as supporting local businesses and communities, has contributed strongly to the economy and society.

Tom Rea, Director of Guaranteed Irish said, “As one of Ireland’s most trusted and recognised symbols, Guaranteed Irish has been supporting and promoting Irish products and services for over three decades. Following discussions and analysis with UPC over the past two years, we are delighted to welcome a company of their stature and commitment to Guaranteed Irish.

“Demand for Guaranteed Irish has never been stronger with 300 members already using the emblem which promotes Irish products, services and companies who definitively create and sustain jobs in Ireland.”

Magnus Ternsjo, CEO of UPC Ireland added “Through our investments and our services, UPC is one of Ireland’s biggest supporters here at home and also internationally. We’re immensely proud to be accepted as a member of Guaranteed Irish. It demonstrates the contribution that UPC makes across the country as an Irish based business offering market leading digital services and providing employment to over 1,500 people.

“Through our investment of over half a billion euro in our Irish fibre power network, we’re the fastest growing and most dynamic provider of TV entertainment, superfast broadband and communication services to businesses and consumers in Ireland.”

“As consumers are aware of the importance of buying Irish, we’re delighted to be recognised for being Guaranteed Irish, as UPC supports and promotes all things Irish across our organisation. For instance we were the first TV platform to launch Setanta Sports and the first to introduce the Irish TV player services to our On Demand TV Service which was also recently launched on our new Horizon TV service.

“We offer all of the latest content from Irish TV channels with enhanced services including HD. We’re very proud to be the only TV provider to offer the Oireachtas TV channel, to have recently also signed an agreement with Irish production company Element Pictures for film content and also to support regionally based services including Cork Community TV.”

"Through our fibre power network, UPC is an acknowledged leader in the Irish broadband market offering the fastest speeds to consumers and placing Ireland high up in the international league tables with our European counterparts.

“UPC also has a wide reaching Corporate Responsibility programme that includes supporting digital inclusion with software and educational tools that ensure safe and easy access for all age groups throughout Ireland.

“As Ireland’s leading media operator providing digital TV, broadband and phone services to homes and businesses, we are committed to establishing a digitally inclusive society where the benefits of the internet and wider communications technologies are enjoyed by all.
