On Your Marks – Why We Can't Wait For Run

Domhnall Gleeson and Merritt Wever star in Run

In any circumstances, it would be one of the most anticipated shows of the year; given the current situation, we can barely stand to wait any longer! Run promises to be one of the highlights of the telly year – and it’s almost here!

Beginning on Wednesday at 9pm on Sky Comedy, Virgin TV 123, it’s the story of old flames who suddenly reunite – but that’s just the start of it. So it’s all aboard, as we look at why this brand new show has us staring impatiently at the clock waiting for Wednesday to roll around!

GET IT FRESH

Look, we love reliving old favourites as much as the next person (probably more!), but the promise of something brand new to enjoy has us beside ourselves! With everything from live shows to sports changed utterly in the past few weeks, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a fabulous new arrival on the horizon! Tell your friends to watch it too; it’ll deliver something new to talk about!

THE FLEABAG FACTOR

Creator Vicky Jones is a long-time collaborator of Phoebe Waller-Bridge – in fact, from the phenomenal Fleabag to the cracking Killing Eve, their track record when working together is pretty stellar. Well, the pair are once again involved here (with Waller-Bridge popping up for a scene-stealing guest appearance), and their combined CV all but guarantees another home run!

DOMHNALL HEATING

A bonafide Hollywood heavyweight, our own Domhnall Gleeson is back on the small screen; that’s reason enough for celebration in our book! Throw in the fact that he’s opposite the awesome Merritt Wever, who’s stolen the show in the likes of Unbelievable and Marriage Story (both available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999), and you know you’re in for a treat! Seeing two of the best actors around bouncing off each other is a delight – and that’s without getting into the details...

CONCEPT ART

The plot of the show is brilliant; in short, a long-standing pact brings former partners together with a single text message: RUN. From there, the two board a train from Grand Central Station, and embark on a cross-country adventure full of fun, flirting and a few fireworks too. It’s an original premise for an outstanding show, and perfect for allowing the chemistry and charisma of its leads to shine! Oh, and it throws up plenty of little nuggets along the way – including...

GOING OFF TRACK

No great story is complete without the occasional twist and turn, and you won’t find Run lacking in that regard! In fact, while we don’t want to give too much away, we’re confident that whatever you’re expecting as the series begins, you’ll end up somewhere very different by the mid-way point! Not content with chugging along, the show gains serious speed as it progresses, adding stakes and shocks to draw you in deeper – when you’re glued to the screen into April and May, don’t say we didn’t warn you!
