Frequently asked questions

Parental Controls

Parental Controls is a feature we introduced for all our broadband connections. It allows you to set an age rating on your WiFi at home so little eyes can't see things online that may not be suitable for them. It's 100% free and you can tailor it to suit you.

How does it work?

Parental Controls look at the descriptions of the sites that are trying to be accessed on your connection. If it passes the age rating you set, they can view the content, if the page doesn't pass the age rating you set - they can't. The controls you set will apply to all connected devices in your home 24 hrs a day.

To activate and set up parental controls log into My Virgin Media. On the main account overview page look under the My Products and click on Virgin Media Parental controls. (Don't have an account? You can register in seconds!)

You can find out more about this topic on our dedicated Parental Controls page.

Online Armour antivirus software

This antivirus software works across up to fifteen of your mobile and computer devices using WiFi, Ethernet or 4G.

You can try the service free for three months, and if you'd like to continue using it after that a charge of €4 per month will apply to your bill.

Some top tips for staying safe

  • If it looks suspect, treat it as such. If you feel a page or site isn't totally on the level it's best to avoid it completely.
  • Never open or use attachments in mails when you don't recognise the sender - these could potentially infect your computer or try to track your personal information.
  • If you decide to use a 3rd party antivirus make sure it's updated regularly. Good antivirus programs will be constantly updated to match evolving threats.
