Dublin Oldschool And Six More Superb Soundtracks
One of the homegrown hits of the year is a vibrant tale of life in the capital – so of course it needs a soundtrack to match! Dublin Oldschool (available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €4.99) is an adaptation of Emmet Kirwan’s acclaimed stage play, and when we caught up with him to pick his brains about the soundtrack, he made no secret of how important the right tunes were when bringing it to life on screen.
“The soundtrack is deadly. The music in this movie runs the gamut from the late 80s to 2018 – basically 30 years of the history of dance music in Ireland, all in one movie – and it’s down to Johnny Moy.”
A legendary figure in Irish music, Moy was the perfect choice to take the reins, Emmet says. “These DJs, they’re all crate diggers. You know they go through old things, trying to find a deleted disco track and that in itself is a massive thing. They have encyclopedic knowledge of tunes.”
Watch the film today and you’ll understand just what a difference the right tunes can make – and if you want further proof, check out a few more films where the soundtrack hits all the right notes!
