Whether it’s a binge-worthy series like Stranger Things or a relaxed movie night with friends, streaming has become part of everyday life across Ireland.
With Virgin Media’s Ireland Broadband and TV packages, it’s easier than ever to enjoy your favourite TV shows, movies and games whenever you want.
But which counties in Ireland are the most obsessed with streaming?
To find out, we analysed Google Search data for 2025, focusing on streaming-related keywords such as “online streaming”, “stream movies”, “stream TV shows” and more, with results adjusted per 100,000 people to reveal which counties lead the way.
Dublin takes the crown as Ireland’s most streaming-obsessed county, with a total of 16,850 streaming-related searches, equal to 1,156 searches per 100,000 people. It’s no surprise the capital is home to some of Ireland’s biggest TV and movie fans. TV shows like Normal People and Bad Sisters, along with films such as Once, which is set on the streets of Dublin, have captured the hearts of viewers at home and abroad. From late-night dramas to weekend thriller binges, Dubliners clearly love to stream, and many can even visit famous filming locations once the credits roll.
County Leitrim ranks second with 910 searches per 100,000 people. Despite its small population, Leitrim residents clearly enjoy cosying up on the couch and keeping up with the world’s most popular shows. Despite its small population, Leitrim residents clearly enjoy cosying up on the couch and keeping up with the world’s most popular shows. Leitrim has also appeared on screen in recent years, with the 2024 film That They May Face the Rising Sun, bringing the work of local writer John McGahern and the county’s scenery to life.
Carlow, often known as the “Celtic Centre of Ireland”, comes in third with 872 searches per 100,000 people. The county may be small, but its love for streaming is big. Carlow is also where Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan spent part of her childhood, adding another link to Ireland’s growing screen success.
Joining Carlow in the top five are Louth and Longford. Louth recorded 809 searches per 100,000 people, with a total streaming search volume of 1,130, showing a strong appetite for TV shows and movies, while Longford followed closely behind with 749 searches per 100,000 people. Together, they show that streaming is just as popular in smaller counties as it is in Ireland’s larger cities.
Moving into the top ten, County Roscommon lands in sixth place with 741 searches per 100,000 people. The county is home to actor Chris O’Dowd, who has appeared in films like Bridesmaids and more recently in the Black Mirror episode “Common People” in 2025 a performance that had many viewers watching the entire season in one sitting.
Counties Galway, Kildare, Cork and Westmeath all round out the top 10.

Methodology
To find Ireland’s most streaming-obsessed counties, we analysed Google Search data for 2025 for over 20 streaming-related keywords per county, including “online streaming”, “stream movies”, “stream TV shows” and more. Search volumes were collected at county level and adjusted per 100,000 people using the latest available population data, allowing for a fair comparison between counties of different sizes. Counties were then ranked based on the number of streaming-related searches per 100,000 people.
