Most Instagrammable Spots By County
Dublin leads the way with the highest volume of tagged posts, which reflects both the city’s role as Ireland’s main tourism hub and the amount of shareable locations it offers. Temple Bar makes up a significant portion of this, but other spots such as Phoenix Park, Trinity College and the Guinness Storehouse contribute strongly.
Galway follows closely behind, driven by the ongoing popularity of Connemara, Salthill and the Aran Islands. These results show how consistently visitors are drawn to the west for dramatic scenery and coastal photographs that fit seamlessly into travel-themed feeds.
Clare, Wicklow and Kerry also perform strongly, each boosted by an instantly recognisable headline attraction and supported by several high-performing locations. Clare’s total is lifted by the Cliffs of Moher, Lahinch and the Burren, which together offer rugged coastline and unique limestone landscapes.
Wicklow’s position is strengthened by Glendalough, the national park and Powerscourt Estate, all of which have a strong visual identity. Kerry’s counts reflect the continued appeal of the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula and Killarney National Park. Counties that offer a mix of coastline, mountains, heritage sites and scenic routes consistently rank near the top, showing how heavily natural beauty influences Irish travel content online.
Methodology
The Virgin Media data team analysed Instagram hashtag usage for five well known landmarks or places of interest in each Irish county. For every location, the most commonly used related hashtags were identified and counted. The total number of tagged posts for each set of five locations was then combined to calculate the overall Instagram activity for each county. The same approach was used to rank Ireland’s most Instagrammable individual attractions.
