90% of Irish consumers plan shop for Christmas presents this Black Friday – Virgin Media

49% of consumers will shop with international stores over Irish retailers


21st November 2018: Research carried out by Virgin Media has shown that almost 90% of Irish consumers plan to take advantage of the upcoming Black Friday sales to do some, or all of their Christmas Shopping, with women more likely to take advantage of the Black Friday sales over men.


The research which was carried out by iReach on behalf of Virgin Media surveyed over 1,000 Irish consumers on their Black Friday shopping habits in the run up to the big day on the 23rd November.


When it came down to where consumers are more likely to shop, Irish or International stores, the result was almost split with 51% saying they would be more likely to shop Irish, and 49% saying they would shop internationally. Of those who said they were more likely to shop with international stores, men were more likely to do so.


Speaking about the research Paul Higgins, Director of Consumer at Virgin Media said “What we’re seeing from the research is that almost 90% of Irish consumers who take advantage of the Black Friday sales plan to do so for the purpose of buying Christmas gifts, and of these, the majority of them are buying technology products. Other information which the research also revealed:


·       When asked what the main method they would use to shop during Black Friday, 72% of those who planned to shop on Black Friday said they would shop online, while only 28% said they would shop in a traditional Brick & Mortar stores.

·       Technology came out top of peoples list when asked what the planned to buy during Black Friday, followed by Fashion and Beauty.
