Six Singing Celebs Who Definitely Didn’t Have The X Factor
Some familiar faces are currently doing battle on The X Factor: Celebrity – and we should probably be grateful. Because while the show, airing Saturday evenings on Virgin TV One, Virgin TV 103, has done a pretty good job of bringing in contestants who can sing their hearts out, it could have been a whole lot different; we’ve seen some stars on screen who haven’t quite hit the right notes! Who? Well, we hate to single some out…but we’ve done it anyway!
SAM CARMICHAEL
Mamma Mia, available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99
Pierce Brosnan has no shortage of strong points – he was James Bond, for goodness sake! Singing, however, doesn’t necessarily seem to be one of them; the fact that he’s surrounded by a cast who seem far better suited to the task probably made him stand out even more!
PHOEBE BUFFAY
Friends, available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999
OK, ‘Smelly Cat’ is a jam – but there’s no room for one-hit wonders at the top table! We love Pheebs, but there’s probably a reason why she never went full-time with the music; somehow, we can’t see Simon and co. giving her the chance to either!
MRS DOUBTFIRE
Mrs Doubtfire, available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99
Singing our way around the kitchen is something we can all relate to – but something tells us her operatic stylings might not transfer to the big stage all that well. Then again, a larger-than-life contestant has gone further than anyone thought possible on plenty of occasions; Wagner, Chico, shoutouts to you both!
ROBIN SPARKLES
How I Met Your Mother, available now on Netflix, Virgin TV 999
We adore ‘Let’s Go To The Mall’ – but the music business moves quickly, and Canada being about a decade behind the trends is probably going to count against Scherbatsky’s chances. Drag in her pal Jessica Glitter – played by Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger – and things might look up, though!
ALDOUS SNOW
Get Him To The Greek, available to rent now on Virgin Movies from €2.99
This one’s a weird one – because if there’s one thing that Russell Brand’s rock god has in spades, it’s the X factor. What he doesn’t have, however, is the sort of tunes that could possibly be played during teatime telly! If the judges didn’t give him the hook, then the producers would – before the air turned blue!
TOMMY BOWE
Pro14 Rugby, eir Sport 1, Virgin TV 410
He’s now at home in the presenter’s chair for Pro14 rugby – having been resident on the wing for Ireland for the best part of a decade. It was after one of his most famous days that the Monaghan man decided to give us a blast of ‘Black Velvet Band’, at the homecoming following Ireland’s 2009 Grand Slam success. We’ll always love you, Tommy – but we’re glad you stuck to the rugby…
