There’s all kinds of everything on Virgin…

Movie news

There’s something for everyone on Virgin On Demand, which is great, but it might also lead to some arguments about what to watch. In the interests of peace and harmony, we’ve put together a little pick’n’mix of genres to keep all you movie buffs out there happy.

Harrison Ford Movie Star - Virgin Media Ireland

THE LEAST OF THESE: When Father Andre returns to his former boarding school to replace his missing predecessor, he smells something fishy (and we don’t mean old cod!). Soon he suspects that somebody might have offed the missing padre. His suspicions grow and faster than you can say, “Bless me Father,” he’s out to uncover the truth and face some demons from his own past in the process.

THE BURBS: Tom Hanks is the ultimate nosey neighbour in this comic tale of suburban paranoia in which a stressed husband becomes obsessed with finding out the secret of his mysterious new neighbours. After much snooping, he comes to the conclusion that he’s living beside a cult of cannibals. No popping next door for a bowl of sugar then…

THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS: The dark days of Nazi Germany are revisited in this story of Bruno, a boy whose family moves from their home in Berlin to a strange new house at a camp in Poland. Unaware that his father is involved in the Holocaust, he befriends Shmuel, a Jewish prisoner. Get the hankies ready because what follows is a powerful tale of friendship and lost innocence, made all the more powerful because it is told through the eyes of a child.

ELLA ENCHANTED: You’ve gotta love Anne Hathaway. She’s perfect in this modern retelling of the Cinderella story, in which a young girl is put under a spell to always be obedient (Parents everywhere could do with one of those!). When the spell is used to make her life a misery, she embarks on a dangerous journey to remove the curse, and (natch) falls for the prince of the land along the way.

SINBAD: THE FIFTH VOYAGE: When Sinbad’s girlfriend is kidnapped by an evil sorcerer (aren’t they always?), our hero finds he has 40 days and 40 nights to rescue her from the Black Desert (sounds cool). As if that wasn’t bad enough, he has to battle an army of mythical creatures, including the Cyclops before he can get back the love of his life.

They’re all waiting for you on Virgin On Demand.

The only question is – which genre will you go for?
