Important changes to your channel lineup

Channel Removal

Virgin Media worked hard to get a deal for our customers with UKTV. Sadly we couldn’t reach an agreement and have to say goodbye to Dave, G.O.L.D., Alibi and W. To mimimise disruption, we have introduced the 4 new CBS channels -  CBS Drama, CBS Reality, CBS Action and the Horror Channel.

UKTV's were among our least viewed channels. Our customers will be able to keep enjoying our great range of content ahead of our Virgin Media Sport channel launch.

I'm missing G.O.L.D., Dave, Alibi and W. Why?

We’re sorry but the broadcaster has withdrawn these channels. We know it’s disappointing and we’re working working hard to convince the broadcaster to switch them back on for you.

Why have they been removed?

Despite the combined efforts of Virgin Media UK and Ireland to reach an agreement with UKTV – this is the situation we face. We will however, continue to engage in a proactive approach to persuade the broadcaster to switch back on the channels as that is in everyone’s interests.

Why am I only finding out now?

The contract expired at 00:01 on Sunday July 22nd. The contract team were engaged in discussions right up to the last minute in order to continue broadcasting the channels but were unable to reach an agreement with UKTV. As a result we were required by the broadcaster to remove these channels (G.O.L.D., Dave, Alibi and W). We know it’s not ideal and we are working behind the scenes to convince the broadcaster to reverse their decision.

What channels are you replacing them with?

While we endeavour to reverse this decision we're confident that there is still a wide range of similar programming across our platforms. We’ve added 4 exciting new channels - CBS Drama, CBS Action and CBS Reality and the Horror Channel. We carry a number of similar quality entertainment channels such as Quest Red, Sky Living, Lifetime and E, as well as an extensive range of free and exclusive box sets available On Demand.

Where else can you watch your favourite shows?

  • Are you a fan of Only Fools and Horses/Mrs Brown’s Boys/Dad’s Army or Last of the Summer Wine on Gold? You can catch these on RTE, BBC and Netflix.
  • Love Tipping Point/My Dream Home/Inside the Ambulance? You’ll find these all on TV3.
  • Need Murdoch Mysteries, Death in Paradise or New Tricks? Netflix has them all!
  • Can’t live without Top Gear, Mock the Week, QI and American Pickers? Watch them all on BBC, History Channel and Netflix.

Are these channels coming back?

We remain optimistic – as it's in everyone’s interest for the broadcaster to switch these back on.

Will I get a price reduction as these channels are no longer available?

We do not reimburse customers for channels that may be removed by the broadcaster. This is highlighted in our terms and conditions.  But let us reassure you that our 4 new channels - CBS Drama, CBS Action, CBS Reality and the Horror Channel offer fantastic content and are worth enjoying.

Will I lose my DVR recordings?

Yes, sadly recordings for these channels will no longer be accessible.

Will I lose any more channels?

We constantly review the channels we offer so we can provide the best value, high quality channels and content, based on customer feedback, to our customers. As a result we are continually in discussions with a number of broadcasters and occasionally this will mean changes to the line-up. Exciting new channels are also added - most recently CBS Drama, CBS Action, CBS Reality and the Horror Channel.
